Detoxing is all the rage in today's the society – there's every pill potion and diet shake that claims to detoxify your body and leave you feeling amazing. What we don't think about is the toxicity in our mental and emotional wellbeing.
If you're feeling down, overwhelmed and stressed, here's a handful of ways to detox your mind and feel better.
Ditch Toxic News
Ever watched the evening news and just felt like crying? You're not alone. Whilst it's important to know current affairs, the constant footage of terrorism, natural disasters and arguing politicians is significantly impacting your wellbeing. Try limiting yourself to the headlines, or balance yourself out by reading sites such as Good News Network to get your fix of happy news.
Ditch Toxic Friends
We've all had that friend that we dread spending time with, and walk away from feeling icky. Our social circle is actually our own choice – you can choose to surround yourself with positive people, and put boundaries up around the negative people. If they are firmly ingrained in your social group, simply limit your one-on-one time.
Ditch Toxic Comparison-itis
In the world of social media, all we see is people's highlight reels – Instagram-worthy meals, luxurious holidays, promotions, engagements weddings and cute babies. This can leave us feeling seriously down on ourselves, especially after a binge-fest on 'that girl' who seems to have it all. Instead, remove anyone who makes you feel less-than from your newsfeed for a few weeks, and remember that their fight with their boyfriend, financial issues and depression aren't shared in their social media.
Ditch Toxic Interactions
Whilst we all enjoy a cheeky gossip session every now and then, continually discussing other people's lives, particularly the negative aspects, is a toxic habit that needs to be ditched. Either choose to only share positive news, avoid speculating on the negative, or remove yourself from the situation when others are gossiping about people.
