Ladies, we've all been there. While it's true that PMS is not a healthy sign and that many women can live PMS free, even those of us who do so get the occasional bad cycle.

When it hits, nutrition is usually the first thing to go out the window, with gals cramming chocolate in like there's no tomorrow and eating the most indulgent foods they can find.

But what if I told you that you can have a super indulgent dessert that is not only simple to make, but therapeutic when it comes to that time of the month?

Introducing: Snickers Nice-Cream!

This bad boy may not be very pretty, but he is nutrient-packed, vegan and Paleo-friendly, and so simple to make!

2 bananas, frozen and sliced

1 Tbsp natural peanut butter (or preferred nut butter)

1 tsp cacao powder

1 small pinch of Himalayan/sea salt

Blend ingredients until smooth and creamy - if you can wait that long!

Optional: Top with bee pollen

So why is this so good for PMS? Let's break it down by ingredients.

Bananas are packed full of potassium, which can help alleviate bloating. They also give you a sweet hit but with bonus fibre to balance out your energy levels, unlike other sweet treats. Peel and chuck any brown bananas into a zip lock bag in the freezer so you can whip this up whenever you need to.

Peanut/nut butter is a source of good fats that will help keep your blood sugar levels steady, which is very important in conditions such as PCOS, as well as preventing you from getting too moody! Nuts can also be a good source of fibre. Try to stick to all-natural nut butters with no sweeteners or additives for maximum therapeutic effect and taste.

Cacao, or unrefined cocoa, is a nutritional powerhouse. It is packed full of magnesium, which can help to alleviate those cramps, and iron to replace losses through menstruation. Add a bonus of zinc, manganese and antioxidants, and you have yourself Nature's Multivitamin! You can use cocoa if you don't have cacao on hand, however remember that processing does drop the nutrient levels down.

Salt is not an ingredient you expect to associate with helping PMS - after all, isn't salt a cause of bloating? This is where the type of salt makes a big difference. The more natural, less processed forms of salt such as Himalayan and sea salt have a better balance of electrolytes present, so is far less likely to contribute to any bloating. Salt can also help relieve dizziness and headaches, and supports your adrenal glands, which leads to better hormonal health overall.

So get to making that nice-cream today - do you really need any more reason to?

Oh, and ladies? Share with your man. It'll boost his testosterone and make him a little more tolerant of your mood swings!
